OAS MSME Newsletter: ( November 2024):
This OAS MSME Newsletter is published by the Department of Economic Development of the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI). It is dedicated to measures recently announced by OAS Member States to drive the economic recovery of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). The policy responses vary from country to country and are specific to the economic circumstances of each Member State. Given that every day produces new developments, this inventory is in no way exhaustive.
Neuquén becomes the second province to join this program promoted by the Secretariat of Small and Medium Enterprises, Entrepreneurs and Knowledge Economy of the Ministry of Economy. Through the Capacitar Platform, this tool offers more than 500 free courses, mostly taught by private sector companies.
The call for the 13th edition of the “Seal” is open, which highlights quality products, creativity and contribution to productive development. SMEs and entrepreneurs can register until December 10.
The National Government and Argencon presented Argentina Delivers; a campaign to promote the country as a center for global business services
This initiative seeks to boost economic growth and the export of professional services, relying on local talent and international value chains.
The new offer covers four major thematic areas: SMEs, entrepreneurs, exporting companies and professional growth profiles. Within these areas, there are 13 routes with options such as Cybersecurity for SMEs, Artificial Intelligence, Sales and Marketing for entrepreneurs and exporting SMEs.
The event will feature more than 150 exhibitors, more than 80 speakers, 16 hours of in-person programming, 30 partners, a plenary session, and simultaneous exhibitions. It is expected to receive around 5 thousand women in person.
Diversity drives the 2024 Global Entrepreneurship Week
In-person and online activities include free training on topics such as financial management, planning, business validation, artificial intelligence (AI), and leadership, among others. Half of black entrepreneurs understand the importance of cultural identity in their businesses
During the week in which Black Awareness Day is celebrated (11/20), a survey by Sebrae Minas reveals that half of black entrepreneurs in Minas Gerais understand the importance of cultural identity in their businesses. According to the survey, 22% of those interviewed consider that cultural identity is fundamental and defines the essence of the business, and 28% consider it important. The study was conducted in October 2024 and interviewed 739 entrepreneurs in the state, including black (black and mixed race) and white entrepreneurs.
The 2024 MSME and Cooperative Week was launched with awards for outstanding companies of the year
The launch took place within the framework of a fair for smaller companies organized by Sercotec, an event that brought together more than 750 attendees who were able to visit the 56 MSME and cooperative stands installed in the venue. In addition, there were also meetings that connected companies, advised by the Sercotec Business Development Centers, with large buyers from strategic industries and with the public market, with a view to promoting the creation of short value chains.
Sercotec and FEN UChile announced the Sustainable Impact Seal, an initiative that opened a call until November 8 to find the most sustainable MSMEs in the country. During the event, a service was also launched to provide them with free advice on sustainable issues.
During the Global Entrepreneurship Week, which takes place from November 18 to 24, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism highlighted that, through its autonomous heritage iNNpulsa Colombia, it maintains its commitment to this important ecosystem and has allocated more than $142,000 million.
To follow-up with this procedure, companies must enter the Costa Rican Business Information System (SIEC), at www.siec.go.cr and complete the corresponding form, which is considered a sworn statement, so it is not necessary to attach documents, to prove compliance with two of these three requirements: social security contributions to the CCSS, tax obligations to the Treasury, or work risk insurance to the INS.
Costa Rica joins Global Entrepreneurship Week, an international movement celebrated in more than 170 countries to foster entrepreneurship and strengthen innovation. From November 18 to 23, the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce (MEIC) will hold a series of free activities that will offer training, advice and networking opportunities for entrepreneurs, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM) won Gold in the Ibero-American Quality Award, becoming the first ministry in the country to achieve this category and the only ministry to receive it internationally in more than a decade. With this award, the Ibero-American Foundation for Quality Management (FUNDIBEQ) recognizes excellence in the management of organizations.
MICM holds a Business Roundtable between Free Trade Zones and MSMEs
The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM) held a Business Roundtable, in which thirty-eight micro, small and medium-sized companies participated, which had the opportunity to present their products to seven companies from Free Trade Zones. The objective of this Business Roundtable is to facilitate the connection between MSMEs and Free Trade Zones, thus creating strategic alliances for their growth and development.
From October 21 to 23, 2024, the second edition of the Conference for MSMEs and Entrepreneurs took place, an initiative aimed at strengthening the skills of microentrepreneurs in strategic areas for the growth of their businesses.
In this edition of the diploma, 135 people graduated, 81 men and 54 women, from 34 municipalities in the country. In addition, 35 representatives from institutions linked to the topic of Local Economic Development and CONAMYPE staff also participated.
2nd Forum on “Emerging Technologies in Industry”
The Government of El Salvador, through the National Commission for Micro and Small Enterprises (CONAMYPE), the Special Fund for Resources from the Privatization of ANTEL (FANTEL), held the 2nd Forum on “Emerging Technologies in Industry”, aimed at MSMEs in the industry and services sector. The objective of this forum is to promote the adoption of emerging technologies in the productive processes of SMEs in El Salvador, thus fostering their competitiveness, innovation, and sustainable growth within the framework of digital transformation.
Economy and GIZ form the Alliance for the Digital Transformation of MSMEs
The Ministry of Economy, in collaboration with the German Technical Cooperation (GIZ) in Mexico, announced the formation of the Alliance for the Digital Transformation of Mexican Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), whose objective is to strengthen the capabilities and skills of these companies.
Five days of Innovation and Connection
With a vision focused on growth and innovation, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Authority (Ampyme) inaugurated the Global Entrepreneurship Week (SGE) that will take place from November 18 to 22 of this year. Banks urged to boost financing for MSMEs
In the framework of the official opening of the 58th Annual Assembly of the Latin American Federation of Banks (Felaban), the financial sector was invited to support micro, small and medium-sized enterprises by facilitating access to credit for this sector. The importance of collaboration between the government and the private sector to promote the development of national micro, small and medium-sized enterprises was mentioned, facilitating their access to financing, one of the main problems that this sector faces when it comes to boosting their businesses.
